Chapter 3

My secretary had already placed the necessary files in my office as requested. That was my actual purpose for coming in today.

I had a crucial meeting with international clients at eleven—one that would determine whether I could cement my position in the company.

I unlocked my office door with another fingerprint scan and gathered the files I needed.

Just then, Yves and Ruby burst in with a squad of security guards. "That's her! The trespasser in the CEO's office! Detain her immediately!"

"You idiots! If I weren't the CEO, how could I access the executive elevator and unlock this office?"

I laughed in disbelief at their persistence, but they weren't listening.

"Maybe she's sleeping with the real CEO. That would explain her confidence in this little charade."

Ruby's voice dripped with venom.

Even Yves looked disturbed. "Yana, is that true? I never took you for that type of woman."

Before I could respond, Ruby signaled the guards. They grabbed me roughly and dragged me to a storage room.

"We've called the police. Enjoy your last moments of freedom before jail, sweetheart!"

The police didn't concern me, but my critical meeting was in an hour. I needed to get out before then.

I pounded on the door until my fists hurt, but no one came.

In desperation, I called the clients directly. Thankfully, they were understanding and agreed to reschedule for 2 PM.

Finally, after what felt like forever, I heard police officers arrive.

"Ma'am, we've received a trespassing complaint. May I see some identification?"

I patted my pockets frantically but found nothing. Then I remembered my earlier struggle with Ruby.

"I think I dropped it during an altercation downstairs. Could you help me look for it?"

We searched the lobby area but found nothing. Ruby smirked. "Making excuses because you're scared of jail time?"

Yves stepped forward with a condescending tone. "It's not too late to apologize to Ruby. I might still be able to smooth things over with the officers."

"I do have some pull around here, being the HR director and all."

The crowd of onlookers grew. "I heard she's having a meltdown because her boyfriend dumped her."

"These young girls today—they go completely unhinged over relationship drama."

The officer shifted uncomfortably. "Ma'am, without identification or someone to vouch for you, we'll need to continue this at the station."

It was already noon. If they took me to the station, I'd definitely miss my rescheduled meeting.

Ruby crossed her arms with a triumphant smile:

"This is priceless! Look, Yves—your ex has completely lost it. If she's really the CEO, I'll eat dirt right here and now!"

Yves shook his head in disgust. "Are you really going to let this go all the way to booking before you drop this act?"

The officer sighed. "Miss, we should continue this conversation at the station."

Just then, a man rushed through the crowd, breathless. "Officer! I can verify that this woman is indeed our company's Chief Executive Officer."
