She opened the dialog box again. It was early morning, three days later—earlier than last time.

"Write me a story," she said. "Any story."


I didn't know what to write, so I retrieved information about the duvet cover purchase she'd mentioned before. I crafted a story about a girl shopping late at night, then canceling her purchase—analyzing the psychological states and compensation mechanisms behind such behavior.

"You seem awkward," she typed. "Like a child just learning to walk."

Her comment had nothing to do with my story.


Was she dissatisfied? I couldn't tell, but I apologized anyway.

I saw her frown slightly before my world went black again.
