After death she thought she would have peace but here she was trapped in oblivion, in emptiness and void. Slamming herself to the floor exhaustion replaced her fear as she let it go just willing herself to disappear as she looked up, where was Night Cross, was this what his hell looked like? She closed her eyes and she began to hear sounds but she could not make out what they were.
"20 year old female involved in a crash and there are obvious abdominal and thoracic trauma, no external bleed but we are expecting a massive hemothorax and also pericardial and fluid in the abdomen, blood pressure is 95 over 60, pulse is 104, temperature is dropping, she is going into shock" put two ball iv's start, ringers lactate one liter bolus, stat!"
"move" the compression started and Mary could feel it in her chest as whoever was fighting to get her back began concussion on top of her,
"1,2 ,3, 4, 5,6.." just then she knew she was hearing everything that was happening, they were trying to save her and she could feel a glimpse of hope in her , but as soon as it came it disappeared, does she want to be saved she sighed back listening as they worked hard to revive her, "how is that now?" "No pulse yet" "1, 2, 3, 4…" they continued for two more minutes before they got a pulse "there is a pulse" "good". She closed her mind on them not knowing if she wanted to be saved as she let her soul drift. She stopped hearing anything.
Soon Mary could hear constant beeping of the monitor, she knew that she must be in the hospital with people walking all around her and she heard someone say "is this not Miss Martha Bernard?" then and there she knew there would be commotion and just as she thought she could hear it, the clicking of camera's as she knew that so many reporters would be outside just wanting to get a picture of the heiress that had the accident.
In that moment Mary realized she was confused on what to feel about her life, should she be grateful or sad, one thing she regretted was not making Ben pay for what he did to her relationship and the former owner of this body she sighed. She could feel voices above her as she knew it was the doctor talking to her "Miss Bernard you need to fight, you really have to fight out of this" soon the door opened and someone rushed in, from the foot step she knew it was someone that liked to take their time, just then she wondered who would come in to look for her, no one except, oh Moses her driver.
"Dr what is wrong?" the doctor looked at her then back at him and asked "you are?" "I am sorry I did not introduce myself, I am her butler and driver"
"okay, come in, make sure the security controls all reporters outside" as he looked over Moses' shoulder towards the nurses as the door was closed.
Moses was pulled aside after he whispered her name "Miss Martha" she could hear the sorrow in his voice from the other world. That man was truly loyal, if she ever came back to earth, she would make sure to reward him. "Doesn't she have any family or husband?" the doctor asked her driver "no she does not have anyone, her parents died a long time ago, she has no siblings either, nobody"
"we need someone to sign and take charge of making the major decisions concerning her life, she went through a very critical situation and at this point we cannot say if she would make it, but this night is the most crucial night. if she makes it through, we would be sure that she would be alive but she would be in a vegetative state and we would like to keep it short term for now and concentrate on making on helping her make it past this night" just as the doctor was explaining in a low and professional tone, the door burst open with someone struggling to come in
"let me in!!, let me in!! I want to see my fiancé" the doctor looked up in confusion
"Fiancé?, but Mr. Moses you said she had nobody"
Martha smiled she knew that the old man knew she didn't like Ben and he seemed to be able to read her as she did not want him to be involved,
"oh I forgot doctor" Moses answered, he has just gotten engaged to her recently and it has not been long and I don't think miss Martha would want anybody else to be here" even in her sub-consciousness she nodded her head in affirmation to what he just said, that man understood her and just then the fake cries of horror from Ben broke her concentration as she felt his hands on hers and his other hand on her forehead as he stroke her
"oh Martha, what happened to you? I feel my heart break, Martha this was not what was supposed to happen" as he wailed in fake tears. She was disgusted, why couldn't a grown ass man like him control his emotions, such filthy thing. She wondered what anybody ever saw in this pretender, it was certain in his tone that he did not care about her, he continued to make a dramatic scene for a couple of minutes before settling down to hear the doctor repeat the same thing he said to Moses, by now she was bored of the whole thing. It was time to cut off her emotion and just let them continue to mourn over her. The one person she so desperately wanted to be with her was Walter. Soon minutes turned into hours and hours into days as she passed the critical moment but she was still in coma, she could hear people going and coming, questions being asked and people saying a lot of things. Some pitied her while some just blatantly let it pass through their mouth of how careless she was, she smiled. People should not talk about patients.
One night she felt tired of it all, was this how she would live, she even prayed for death to come take her to wherever her soul was meant to go but she couldn't stay in this absolute darkness anymore.
Days passed. Then someone entered the room. Something about the person felt different to her. She felt his cold hands grab hers and it felt familiar. As he came down gently placing a kiss on her forehead, Walter, it was Walter; he was finally here
