Chapter 22

It had been almost a day since Mary had agreed to go out with Ben. From the previous memories of Martha, Mary could see that Ben had a habit of getting whatever he wanted and that was on of the reasons Martha had fallen for him

As Mary prepared to go on a date with Ben, she saw her phone light blink. She looked at her screen and saw a message from him. Even now she still received messages and phone calls from someone she was going to meet that evening. Mary shook her head, he sure was persistent, she said to herself.

As She prepared for her date, she could not help but remember the conversation She had with Ben especially when he said that he knew he was not up to her standard but he still believed that there was a chance he could make things better between them only if she could give him a chance. Mary laughed out while putting a halt to her thought, "what a sweet talker when it comes to getting what he wants, He is still the same as before, he would never change".

She also remembered when she had met him at her school, she had picked up her books and started rushing to her car when he followed her in the same pace. "Just this one time Martha, if you do not eventually like me I would stop disturbing you".

She was irritated and tried to reply in a very calm voice, "I don't think I am interested Ben. She was about to open the car door when he stopped her "The best way to get rid of me Martha, is to give me the chance to take you out to dinner, and see if you are interested or not" he said in a low voice that could charm any woman.

"When did we start using the first name base? did I allow you to call me Martha? She asked, squeezing her face

"Because I am confident that we would have a relationship much more than being friends" he smiled at her.

She paused, gave a deep breath and said, ‘The time is 6pm don't be late "she tells him. Walking on, she enters into her car and drives off. She wasn't worried about telling Ben her address because she knew he would somehow fine it. He could do anything to get what he wants.

Mary looked at her time, it was 6 on the dot, just as she raised her head, she heard her door bell ring. She smiled as expected he would not miss a meeting with her, he had a plan to be a leech and she knew it.

Mary walked out her room and down the stairs. She had on a silk short emerald green dress that hugged on to her body but not too tight, yet it stilled showed her perfect curves, it looked simple but classy and flattering at the same time. She opened the door to see Ben dressed up in suit that fit perfectly and a well combed hair. He had a bunch of red roses in his hands. She looked at him to see his eyes scanning her body from her toe to her face. "You look ravishing" he said handing her the flowers "Well thank you very much Ben. Shall we?" She asked giving a small smile "Of course pretty" she dropped the flowers on the kitchen counter picked her purse and walked out the door with Ben.

He took her to one of the biggest restaurants in town. If the outside the restaurant screamed luxury, then you could imagine what the inside looked like. No one could just walk into the restaurant except you had made reservations with them. The security was also tight because of the social class of people who came to the restaurant. As Mary and Ben stopped in front of the restaurant, she was ushered out of the car with the help of one of the valets. Ben came to her side gave the valet his key so his car could be parked. As he walked with Mary to their table all eyes were on her, it felt like they had to admire her to breathe. Ben walked beside her with a sense of pride because he knew the kind of people who associated with Martha. Just then Ben thought to himself, he just needs a little bit push to get her to himself.

They arrived at their reserved table when Ben pulled her chair for her so she could sit, he does it with so much poised and effortlessly. He gave her a small smile and was about to make conversation when the waiter walked up to them to take their orders and leaves after that.

"So how have you been Ben? I trust that you have had an interesting life? I mean why won't you? I have heard a lot about you" Ben smiled

Mary Smirked, " I mean you are the perfect kind of man and a go getter, who likes to have fun, so you can't tell me that's the case". He smiled at her, looking like he had been prepared of these questions

"well darling that is nothing but the truth" he smiled like a perfect gentleman.

it was almost 30 minutes into their conversation and Mary had to admit Ben was a charmer, in fact almost perfect. He had been a gentle man to listen to almost everything and anything she said with so much interest. He always kept an eye contact with her throughout the conversation giving her his full attention, it was almost too good to be true. Mary let him fall over her. She could not help but feel sad that he was the next one on her list.

Then she realized how Martha fell for this young man sitting in front of her. "I need to go to the rest room I would be back" he gave a nod and she stood up. She had to take off the sadness she was feeling.  She walked to the rest room and stood in front of the mirror looking at her reflection. She closed her eyes and Night cross' words rang in her mind, she could not leave her without fulfilling her mission, she stood up straight adjusted herself and started walking back to where Ben was seated, she overheard Ben on a phone call "don't call me this night mum I am busy" when Mary heard him, a sudden hatred filled her reasoning.

Mary wondered where the sudden hate came from and she realized that it came from what she knew about Ben and his mother from Martha's past memories. She sat down with a smile on her face, she looked at him like he was a bitter taste in her mouth. She called a waiter ordering for the strongest wine so she could wash away the bitter taste of him. What could be more disgusting than a son who shared a bed with his mother? Every bit of relentlessness she had giving him to the devil floated away like flames from a burning candle that was blown off. Mary looked at him trying to speed things up and said "would you want to do this again tomorrow I had fun?" "Yes of course, I would like that, time and place" she smiled and looked at him. She thought to herself that the only way to feed up the anger of what he did to this body's owner in her previous life. It was either these souls or her soul, and hers was out of it.
