Chapter 170 Trick Or Treat

Adeline

Alpha Christian moved toward me and swiped a strand of hair from my face with his finger as he stared into my eyes. It was like he was trying to read my soul or maybe even rattle my wolf. Whatever he was trying, I didn't like it. His eyes were cold and distant, detached from any sort of compassion. I couldn't believe I once actually thought he was a nice guy.

He moved closer to me until his lips were aligned with my ear. "I think you know how this will end if you try to make a move. One single wrong move, Adeline, that's all it'll take to ram my cock into you and remind you who you belong to now," he said and pulled away, tilting his chin up slightly as a smirk played on his face. "But you'd like that, wouldn't you?" he scoffed as his fingertips grazed my skin. Before I could think to respond, Alpha Christian's comment was met with a furious growl that even made my wolf tremble inside.

"I don't care what you do with her once she's off of her own damn territory, but until then, keep it fucking together, you sick twisted freaks, before this ends up a bloodshed," Alpha Blake said. I felt the sincerity in his words as he looked over at me with pity filling his eyes. I wondered if he saw his own Luna in my place when he looked at me—maybe that's why he felt a need to protect me.

He turned on his heels and headed toward the door without muttering another word. He pulled on the doorknob and left me alone with the two people I despised most. The two people who were willing to risk everything to have a piece of my red wolf.

"Have you eaten?" Alpha Christian asked and cocked his head. I shook my head, realizing how hungry I really was when my stomach growled loud enough for all of us to hear. "How unfortunate," he said as he rolled up the cuffs of his dress shirt and turned to his mate. "Ready, sweetheart?"

I watched, stunned, as the two of them walked through the doorway without another glance, with a strange click following the slam of the door shutting. That's when I realized that I had been locked inside the room, left alone to stare at these four walls. Even the prisoners here in Midnight Moon, led by the most ruthless Alpha known to exist in the US, got a damn meal.

I wasted no time, knowing that Alpha Christian and Bailey wouldn't be gone long... they never were. I remembered that there used to be a small window on the other side of the room that suddenly didn't exist. I rushed to the area where I remembered the small rectangle being and began to feel around on the wall until I ran my fingers over a seam. Bingo. I dug my fingernails into the drywall as I desperately pushed into the crease, trying to break the piece free. It slowly began to loosen, small specks of white dust falling to the ground. I stared at the window, dumbfounded. They must have had this plan in motion for weeks to pull this off without the missing window being noticed. Let's just say I remembered the neighbors here being nothing short of nosy. I tossed the remaining piece of drywall behind me and started pulling on the hinges of the window. No luck. Come on, Adeline, think. This could be my one and only chance to get out of this hell.

I managed to pop one hinge off as I realized they had sealed the window shut. Just my luck. However, it didn't mean I was about to give up. I started working on the second hinge, and just as it started to wiggle, I heard footsteps echoing through the hall. Run, my wolf said inside.

"Well, it's about damn time you made an appearance, isn't it?" I scolded.

I reached for the drywall and started pushing it back into the gaping hole. It was quite obvious that it had been tampered with, but I had to think quickly while moving even quicker. I leapt back to the mattress where I sat down and held my gaze downward as if I'd been a good little prisoner this entire time—a prisoner who hadn't just attempted to escape. Shit, the necklace, I thought. I reached to grab the pendant and exhaled deeply, feeling the weight of the world lift off my shoulders when I noticed it wasn't glowing.

"On your knees," Alpha Christian said as he entered the room, not bothering to look my way. I assumed that Bailey had handled her mate, seeing that he suddenly held no interest in me.

"Where's your pet?" I said casually. Alpha Christian finally looked up at me and scoffed. He crouched down in front of me until we were at eye level. "You're my pet. She's my mate. There's a difference. Now, on your knees," he said with a tinge of irritation in his words.

I swallowed the lump at the back of my throat and obeyed, dropping to my knees as I stared up at him. I knew what came next; I wasn't as innocent as he might think I was in his deranged mind. He reached down and squeezed my jaw so tightly that I nearly cried out, begging him to stop. That's when he pulled out his cellphone, and I felt my stomach drop.

"Don't be stupid," he said as he pressed the record button and turned it my way. I couldn't hear what was being said, but I knew there was a conversation happening on the other end of the screen because the phone kept moving. The screen stayed dark for a moment longer until I saw Beta Don's face. I wasn't sure why, but I felt peace when those familiar eyes stared back at me. It felt like a veil of safety draped over me in a way. I couldn't make out what he was saying, but I noticed how pale his skin turned before the picture blurred. By the time it came back into focus, I felt like a shard of glass had pierced through my heart. Jaxon stared right at me, and I couldn't hold back the tears streaming down my face. An avalanche of emotions nearly knocked me off my knees as they trampled through me—embarrassment, anger, sadness.

My plan had come together; I hadn't realized how stupid these boneheads really were. Once my mate saw me like this, he'd rip apart this pack and every pack in a hundred-mile radius.

"Jaxon, DON'T give in to anything they ask. They won't give me back. He wants to keep me for himself," I begged. Before I could gather another thought, I felt the sting of a large hand, and my body flew across the room until I abruptly hit the wooden floor.

"So, you want your red wolf back? You think we're stupid enough to let you keep the only red wolf noted in decades?" Christian said, laughing on the other end of the line before pressing the red button on the screen.
