Chapter 30: The Confrontation

Scarlett's POV

I was in the office, getting through some files. Gabriel had gone to meet a client. I turned up the music volume while humming to it.

'Ma'am?" Kate, my secretary, called, appearing before me.

I turned down the music volume before looking at her.

'What is it?" I asked calmly.

'Mr. Nathan is here to see you," she said.

"Tell him I'm not in the mood to see anyone."

"He said it's urgent," she added. She sounded like someone who was coerced to deliver a message or not return.

"Do I look like I care, Kate?" I snapped, getting pissed off. "Tell him to get lost and never show..."

I was interrupted by the sudden burst of the door, and Nathan stormed in.

'I told you to wait, sir. You can't just barge in," Kate tried to stop him. But the Nathan I know will never budge.

'Let him be, Kate. You can go," I told her.

'I'm sorry, ma'am," she said before closing the door behind her.

'What was the meaning of that madness, Scarlett?" Nathan demanded, seething.

'What do I owe this uncultured visit?" I spoke softly.

"What do you want from me?" He toned down his voice. "Tell me exactly what you want, and stop frustrating me. I'm tired of these childish plays you are putting up."

"Childish plays?" I snapped, jerking up. 'If my acts are so childish, why are you here? Do you think by showing up in my office, I will be forced to stop? You have seen nothing, Nathan. Abso-bloody-lutely nothing yet," I declared, fuming.

'Fine, I understand I betrayed your love, your trust, and shattered our dreams, but am I the first guy to break up with the lady he claimed to love? Why are you acting desperate and vicious?" He reprimanded me, clearly expressing his detestation for me.

My chest heaved to hear him say that. I clenched my fists at my side while gritting my teeth.

'Don't you dare insult me!" I snarled. 'I will take many things from anyone, certainly not from you. What were you expecting? You thought I would be back as a meek, innocent lady, ready to fall back into your web of fake love and promises? Maybe become your side piece, or perhaps you thought 9 years was enough to erase the memories, the pain, and the torture?" I poured out, holding back my tears.

"What do you want me to do, Scarlett? Is it possible to turn back the hands of time? Is it possible to undo my actions? Why don't you just forget the past and start afresh? Why are you stuck with me?" He stated calmly, but every word he said bruised my heart.

I couldn't let my tears fall in front of him. 'Get out of my office, Nathan."

'In case you haven't been informed, the hoodlums you sent to bomb down my warehouse are at the police station as we speak. I bet you know what that means," he stated and turned to leave.

'I hate you with passion," I groaned between gritted teeth, and he glanced at me before shutting the door. I dropped back on the chair, fuming. 'Ugh!" I smacked my fist against the desk.

The air in the office was becoming stuffy, so I had to leave. "If Gabriel shows up, tell him to meet me at home. His number isn't reachable," I told Kate.

"No problem, ma'am," she said before I left.

"Those bastards should have told me they couldn't handle such a discreet operation!" I whined while driving home.

Just then, my phone rang, flashing Macho on the screen. He was my lieutenant friend. I pulled over to answer his call.

"You called at the right moment, Macho. What's the update?" I asked him.

"I have seen the two men, Scarlett. What should I do with them?" He asked.

"Make them confess, of course," I smiled, an idea crossing my mind.

"Confess? That's going to stain your name?" He expressed his worry.

"It wouldn't be me, Macho. Just tell them to confess that Everleigh sent them and made them spill my name as cover--up. Put up something, Macho. A little show wouldn't be a bad idea," I instructed him. A smirk playing around my lips.

"You are the real bitch, Scarlett. What do I get for this one?"

"The usual pay plus extra treat," I said.

"And I assume the extra treat will be having you on my bed?" He asked in a seductive tone.

"Not this time."

"You have been saying that for the past few months. For how long are you going to keep refusing my demand? Haven't I been of enough benefit to you? Just a night, Sweetheart. I bet you will beg for more," he stated.

"I will think about it. Get to work first," I said. Arguing with Macho was like trying to stop a raging river with bare hands.

'I hope it would be positive feedback this time."

'I will let you know." With that, I hung up. 'This is crazy," I remarked before driving.

I reached home a couple of minutes later, and I went straight to freshen up. Upon returning to the bedroom, Razi stormed into my room, struggling to catch her breath.

'Hey, baby. Who is after you?" I inquired, getting uneasy.

'There's a man who is trying to force Miss Kristine to go with him," she said, still panting.

'Just relax, okay? I will take care of him. Now go to your room," I assured her, and she left.

I quickly slipped into my dress before rushing out. Maria was hugging and consoling Kristine, while the security men were pushing the stubborn Juan away.

'Hey, stop that. Why are you pushing him away?" I interjected and the men stopped.

'He was constituting a nuisance, ma'am," Robert reported.

'Bring him closer," I ordered, and they pushed him to my front. "It's been a long while, Juan. How have you been?" I asked, faking a smile while fondling his beards.

'Scarlett? Is this really you?" He looked surprised.

'Oh, yeah, it's me. What brings you to my house?" I wasn't just asking; I was demanding.

"Um, I'm here for Kristine. She left home without telling me," he sais, glancing at Kristine before looking back at me.

A sly smile tugged at the corners of my lips. I have waited for this moment for many years—to have my enemy at my mercy. The ball is now in my court.
