"Get his number."
I froze. "Excuse me?"
"Dr. Grey's phone number," Oro's voice echoed in my head. "Trust me, you're going to need it."
"Are you insane? I'm getting married tomorrow!" I hissed under my breath.
"Exactly why you need it," Oro replied, unblinking. "Get. His. Number."
I remembered Oro's cryptic warnings at the ruins, and something inside me snapped.
This was completely absurd, but—
"Dr. Grey!" I called out as he headed for the stairs. "Wait, please!"
God, what was I doing? This was so unlike me!
Dr. Grey turned, eyebrows raised in mild confusion. "Something else I can help you with?"
I stood rooted to the spot, acutely aware of every eye in the clinic on me, my face burning like I'd stepped too close to a flame.
"Doctor," I managed, my voice wooden and unnatural, "could I get your phone number?"
Dr. Grey's eyebrows shot up, the receptionist's jaw dropped, and the entire clinic went dead silent.
"I—I mean," I stammered, fighting through my mortification, "in case Oro has any health issues later. I'd like to know how to reach you directly."
Dr. Grey still looked bewildered, but his professional demeanor quickly reasserted itself.
"Of course," he said smoothly, pulling a business card from his coat pocket. "My direct line is right there."
I took the card, my fingers trembling slightly. What kind of spell had this snake cast over me?
From inside the box, Oro watched the exchange, its eyes gleaming with what looked suspiciously like smug satisfaction.
