Chapter 45

Aurora clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, moving up and downwards in accordance to the teacher's instructions. Professor Elena Monroe gave them each approving glances.

"Return to fifth position," She commanded and they simultaneously responded, the sound of their feet moving against the wooden floorboard echoing.

She walked past each bars, appraising each of their legs. When she got to Aurora, she paused, humming softly.

Aurora eyed her from the corner of her eyes, she expected her to say something but the older woman simply cleared her throat before walking towards the front of the class.

"Aurora Rochester. Louisa Roberts will you two come up front, please."

Aurora frowned. What did she want again? With a begrudging sigh, she released her fingers from around the bar and walked towards the center. Louisa came to a stop a few feet away from her,

"I want you two to do a complete round, from first position to the last."

Aurora snapped her head backwards, scowling at Elena, "Why?"

Elena rose a brow, "Are you questioning me?"

She released a weary sigh, shaking her head in an inconspicuous manner before sliding her legs across the floor and moving her arms in a sweeping motion,

"Start."

Aurora moved in accordance to each clapping sound and when she was done, took in a deep breath. Aurora turned to face Elena, cocking her head to the side,

"Can I go back now?"

"Not yet," Elena looked away from her to face the class, "Can anyone tell me the difference between both of their resting position?"

Eva raised her hand and Elena nodded for her to speak, "Aurora's own is shitty and Louisa's is perfect."

The class bursted into a round of small laughter and she couldn't resist the eye roll. Elena clapped her hands once, bringing the crowd to rest,

"Very funny, Miss Winners," Elena gave the raventte a warning look and Eva ducked her head, "But no, the difference lies in their footing. While, Louisa's is graceful and the energy is below her chest. Aurora has a fierce stance, her energy resting above her chest," She paused to face Aurora, "That is what I'd call a perfect stance."

Mason and Natasha clapped loudly and the rest of the class followed. Even Louisa was jamming her palms together, a small smile etched on her lips. Aurora had a frown on her face, was Elena really complimenting her?

But why?

"You can go back to your bars," She nodded once, giving her a commending look. Aurora tipped her head before meandering towards the bar.

The class continued for a few minutes and after asking them to rehearse some more, Elena left the class.

"Lucky you," The girl in front of her said, "Professor Monroe rarely compliments her students, this is a first ." She winked at Aurora before walking off.

"Wait up," Natasha yelled, waving the invitation card in the air.

Aurora huffed, leaning against Mason, "Is she still bent on throwing the party?"

"I even tried bribing her with a fully-booked spa date, she refused," Mason breathed out heavily, "Tell me, you're going to make it."

Aurora pursed her lips, "I'll ask my mom but we already know her answer."

Mason smacked his lips together, "Pity, you truly live a pitiful life, my friend."

He threw an arm around her shoulders and pulled her into his side. Aurora gave him a wane smile and relaxed against his warmth.

Dinner that night was pretty much the same, her mother was absent again. This time she worried it was more than a cold. Her mother rarely fell ill and whenever she did, she got back up in a few days. But this was more than strange.

"Don't worry," Her father had told her, "She'll be alright."

Aurora relented but there was still an inkling of doubt rooted in her chest. After a few silent moments has passed, she decided to take the risk and asked him anyways,

"Dad?" His head snapped up and he peered at her inquisitively.

"Yes, Rory?"

She grimaced at the childish nickname, he hadn't called her that in ages and it felt weird to hear him say it again. Especially since the bond that they shared wasn't the same anymore.

"My friend, Natasha Knight, her birthday is actually two days from now and she's throwing a small party on Friday at her house."

Her father went quiet for awhile, a dark look in his eyes. Aurora knew that gaze all too well, he was probably contemplating her proposition.

"What time is it?"

A hopeful feeling bloomed in her chest, "It's starting by 8 but I promise I'll be back before ten."

Her father hummed thoughtfully, bobbing his head, "10;30," He smiled warmly, "You deserve a break after everything that has happened."

A soft gasp escaped her and she cupped her mouth, "Really?"

"Yes but your mother can't know about this."

She almost jumped from her seat as she squealed in excitement, "Of course, I'll be home before you even know it."

"Good."

Aurora ran back to her room to tell her friends the good news. Michelle nearly blocked her eardrums from screaming so loud, Mason kept repeating that he was proud of her. After making arrangements for clothes shopping tomorrow, she hung up the device and stretched to charge her phone.

Even after she'd settled back on the bed, pulling the covers up to her neck, there was stil a small smile on her face.

She knew just the type of dress she wanted, her mind already running on what shoes to wear and how to do her hair. Maybe she'd even get her nails done, a girlish giggle slipped past her lips and she exhaled softly.

A foreign type of emotion was wrapping around her and she welcomed it. Due to her mother's iron grip, she'd never allowed Aurora out of her sight. Her sleepovers was always at held at her home and she was restricted from going to any parties, even if they were hosted by her friends.

This was the first unsupervised outing she was allowed to go to and she'd surely make it one that she would always remember.

"Yes," She whispered and turned to her side, letting her eyes fall shut as she drifted into a dreamless sleep.
