"I need to look at the Training Camp records," Lyra said bluntly, "especially from the period before I left."
Rayne frowned: "Why the sudden interest in this?"
Lyra took a deep breath: "My memories are somewhat confused. I need to confirm some things."
Rayne pondered for a moment, walked to the bookshelf, and took out a heavy record book: "This is the official record of the Training Camp. But regarding your part... there are some strange things."
Lyra took the record book and quickly turned to her name. The record showed she left the Training Camp early due to "health reasons," but there were no specific details. Even more strange was that the date in the record was exactly one week earlier than she remembered.
"This isn't right." Lyra frowned, "I remember I left on the Full Moon Night."
Rayne's expression turned serious: "The official record shows you left a week early, but I remember you indeed disappeared on the Full Moon Night. This contradiction... I've been investigating it."
Lyra looked at him in shock: "You've been investigating me?"
Rayne nodded: "Since the day of our wedding. The look in your eyes... completely different from when I first met you. More determined, but also more guarded. I wanted to know why."
Lyra's heart began to race: "When did you first meet me?"
"The evaluation day at the Training Camp." Rayne answered, a gentle light flashing in his eyes, "You stood in the corner, quiet but full of strength. That's when I decided you would become my Luna."
This answer confused Lyra. In her past life memories, her first meeting with Rayne was at their wedding. Why was there such a discrepancy?
"And this." Rayne took out a letter from the drawer, "This is a private letter from the Training Camp instructor to me, mentioning that you showed unusual fear and anxiety before leaving. But it doesn't explain why."
Lyra took the letter, with more and more questions in her heart: "I need to visit the Training Camp. In person."
Rayne looked at her with surprise: "That's too dangerous. If someone has tampered with the records, they won't want you going back to investigate."
"That's exactly why I must go," Lyra said firmly, "But I need your help."
Rayne held her hand: "I'll go with you. But we need a plan, one that won't attract Karen's attention."
Footsteps came from outside the door. Lyra quickly put away the record book and letters. Karen entered, still wearing that fake smile on his face.
"I hope I'm not interrupting anything important." His gaze swept across the desk.
Lyra smiled: "Of course not. We were discussing the details of the border report."
Karen sat down across from them: "Well then, let's begin. What have you discovered about that attack?"
Lyra exchanged a glance with Rayne, beginning a carefully crafted conversation. They provided enough details to make the report seem authentic, but concealed their key finding—the silver powder trap designed to frame them.
Throughout the entire process, Lyra closely observed Karen's reactions. When she mentioned that their suggestion to split up had been rejected, a flash of annoyance crossed Karen's eyes.
"It's really a shame you couldn't check more locations," Karen said, with that insincerity in her tone that Lyra could now recognize, "Especially that abandoned cottage in the east, there were reports suggesting important clues might be there."
Lyra felt a chill. That was exactly where they had encountered the silver powder trap. Karen knew about that trap, and she thought they hadn't been there.
"Perhaps next time," Lyra said calmly, while gently squeezing Rayne's hand under the table, conveying a silent warning.
When the meeting ended and Karen left, Lyra and Rayne exchanged a glance, understanding each other's thoughts without words:
Their suspicions were confirmed. Karen was the mastermind behind it all.
