Chapter 172: Be my wife

DRAKE'S POV

As I drove to the front entrance of the hospital to pick Lane up, I couldn't stop grinning. Lynn had said yes to me. She wanted to be my wife. I'd never been happier and couldn't believe she agreed. That woman had been through so much lately after getting out of a horrendous marriage, yet she still chose to accept my weak ass proposal.

Lane came out the front doors, grinning and winking at a few nurses as he went. The guy was incorrigible. He literally couldn't go anywhere without hitting on a woman in some form. I guess being famous in the adult film industry hit everyone differently. I liked to be respectful and keep my hands and eyes to myself, while good ole Lane let every woman know he was looking.

He jumped in the car and slapped my shoulder. "Thanks for picking me up, man! I couldn't stay another fucking day in that depressing ass place." He looked in the back seat. "No lynn? Everything okay? I feel like I've been out of the loop, man. I'm sorry about your brother but then again, I'm really not. Did you see what he did to my head?"

I laughed and put the car into drive. "Jesus, man, you're sounding like luis and his rambling mess of words. Which question would you like me to answer first?"

"Sorry, brother." He laughed. "I'm just pumped to be out. And I'm pumped that this mess is over. But seriously... Where's lynn?"

"She flew to Seattle with her aunt and luis for the weekend. She'll be back on Sunday night. Are you up for some work? Or do you want to go get some rest?"

"Ugh. I've been resting for what feels like years. Let's get some work in. Did you find someone to interview for the accountant position? If not, I can make some calls."

"Oh, so you can bring in another Brooke? Nah, man, I found someone who's actually professional. We're heading to the studio now so I can interview her. She's flown in from Phoenix."

"My hometown, huh? This should be interesting. I wonder if I've fucked her before."

I rolled my eyes and tried not to laugh, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he had fucked her. The guy got around. A lot.

"Let's hope for both of our sakes that you haven't," I joked.

"Hey, what the hell does that mean?"

"It just means that we really need an accountant and I don't need her running for the hills because you can't keep your dick in your pants."

Lane waved me off as I let out another laugh. My phone buzzed from its holder on the dash, causing me to glance up and see a text from lynn. I instantly grinned and tapped the read button, hearing the automatic voice read her message through the speakers.

LYNN: Boarding the jet now. Miss you already. I love you, fiancé.

A huge grin spread across my face hearing her call me fiancé. I was still on cloud nine from her reply and almost forgot that I hadn't told Lane yet.

"Wait, did she just call you fiancé? Jesus, man, I've literally been in the hospital for like two days. What have you been doing this entire time? Going around asking lynn to marry you and shit. Damn, brother. Congratulations."

I laughed, trying not to show him how excited I was about it. Not many people saw the real me and I still held onto my Drake Hudson persona around colleagues, including Lane.

"Thanks, brother, but let's get back into work mode, okay?"

I was already nervous as hell about marrying the woman of my dreams. It wasn't that I was nervous to marry her, just nervous that I might not be the husband she deserved. This was all still so new to me, but when she came home, we were going to fix that. She deserved to know that she meant the world to me and we haven't really had the chance to get used to being together.

We pulled into the lot of my studio when I noticed an unfamiliar car there. It must be the woman that we're interviewing, but I didn't see her anywhere. The place wasn't unlocked, was it? With everything that has happened lately, I guess it wouldn't surprise me. Fuck, it better not be.

It was locked up tight when I tried to open the door. Thank God. Then I turned and saw a parking ticket on the wiper on the unfamiliar car and walked over to it. Strange. It was given yesterday morning, yet it was still here. Who the hell's car was this?

"Dude, she's here." Lane slapped my shoulder.

I turned and saw a small Prius pulling up in front of us with an Uber sticker in the front windshield. The woman who got out of the backseat completely surprised me. She was very beautiful, but dressed like a professional. You wouldn't think she was applying for a job with a porn studio, no matter what the job was for. I liked her already.

"Hi, you must be Ruby." I held my hand out for her to shake.

Her delicate hand took mine as she nervously looked around and then her eyes took in all of my tattoos. Did they make her nervous? I wasn't a bad guy. Tattoos weren't a bad thing, were they? Somehow her gaze made me think they were.

"Yes, I'm Ruby. I'm sorry I'm late. My driver got lost."

"Don't worry about it at all. We just got here ourselves. This is my associate Lane Parker."

Her gaze moved to him when I saw her cheeks turn the brightest red I'd ever seen. Please for the love of God don't tell me he's slept with her. I might throw in the towel and walk away if he had. And by the looks of him eyeing her up and down, he definitely has.

"Fancy meeting you here, Ruby. I didn't think I'd ever see you again after Vegas."

Oh, fuck me. Come on!

I glanced between Lane and Ruby, shaking my head.

"You two know each other?" I finally asked.

"You could say that," Lane replied as he grabbed her hand and brought it to his lips. "What brings you out here?"

She nervously laughed and fell right into his trap. "A job interview?"

"Ah, right. Are you following me?"

"What?! No! I had no idea that you worked here. I just saw the opportunity online and-"

"Calm down, Ruby, I was fucking with you."

I stood back and witnessed this fun little interaction between the two. Normally lynn and I were the ones on display, so it was fun to be on this side of things.

"Well, if you two are done catching up, I'd like to carry on with the interview now."

We all made our way into the studio before I gave Ruby a quick little tour. There was still construction going on so it was hard to show her everything, but I think she got the gist. Then we went into my office and all took a seat. The interview took place without a hitch and I liked the girl after everything she answered. She was the true professional I was looking to hire. I didn't need or want another Brooke coming in here disrupting the balance.
