Chapter 163: Means everything

When I woke up and saw Aunt Rose's face, I almost started to bawl. Last night was one of the scariest nights I'd endured since I left Jason. I honestly thought Diego was going to kill me, but where would that get him with my money? Now I feared for luis and Dakota. Lord only knew what they were going through at the moment, and I was laid up in the hospital with no knowledge on where they were.
Drake and Micky's plan seemed sketchy at best, but that's all we had to work with at the moment, right? Knowing that Drake had been bailed out of jail made me feel better, but I was also terrified at what he might do. This was his family coming after us this time and I saw the look on his face. He wanted to kill Diego. I just hoped Micky could get to him before that happened. I couldn't watch Dominick go to prison.
The nurse had kicked everyone out, including Dominick, and started to check me over. My vitals were fine and she was able to take the oxygen out of my nose, but when she pressed on my ribs I winced in pain.
"Yeah, those babies will be sore for a while, honey," the nurse said before giving me a warm smile. "When you get home, I'd like to see you take two warm baths a day. They will help with all of your aches and pains. Plus, who doesn't enjoy a warm bath?"
I chuckled but quickly grabbed at my ribs as a deep pain radiated through them. Gah, this hurt so badly. I wanted to kill Diego on the basis of how much pain he put me through. That bastard was going down. Aunt Rose and Micky were here now and I trusted Micky with my whole being. He'd take Diego down if it was the last thing he did.
"Alright, honey, I'll send the doctor in soon and see if we can't get you released today." She grabbed her clipboard and left my room, leaving the door open as Drake lunged in.
I let out another chuckle at his movements but had to grab my ribs again. He stormed up to me with worry etched on his features and stared down at my ribs.
"I'm okay," I whispered. "They're still just super tender. The nurse said she was going to send the doctor in soon and see if I can be released today."
Drake sat back down in the chair beside my bed, grabbing my hand. "He has to release you. Our plan to take Diego down has to happen tonight. Midnight."
The worry and stress on his face tugged at my heart. He looked beyond stressed and I honestly didn't know what to do for him. This entire shit show came out of left field and I don't think he knew what to do. When this was all over, I think we needed a long vacation. Not many people can say they've had a full on war with their families twice in a six month window.
"How is Lane doing?" I asked as the image of his body laid on the garage concrete filled my mind.
Nobody has said a word about him yet and I prayed that he was okay.
Drake squeezed my hand. "He's good. They've got him just down the hall and he's already hitting on his nurses." He laughed. "Took a bad hit to the head though. He got ten stitches in the back of his head and
is suffering a concussion, but he's same old Lane."
I let out a breath of relief at his words. Lane was okay. Thank God! I couldn't imagine what Drake would really do if something far worse had happened to Lane. He already wanted Diego dead, just imagine how much he'd want that if Lane were killed.
Drake brought my hand to his lips and stared up into my gaze. We sat like this for what felt like forever and I never wanted to pull away. This man meant everything to me and we almost lost it again. Our families were really putting a kink in our lives and that needed to end. Tonight.
"I'm scared," I finally whispered to Drake.
His brows furrowed as he leaned forward and soothed me by rubbing my arm. "I'm scared too, but I know Diego... he won't hurt you if you comply. Do everything he says, lynn. Don't fight him at all." He kissed my fingers again. "I'll be right down the street waiting for it to be over. I'll have eyes and ears on you the entire time. If I even remotely think he's going to hurt you, I'll be there."
My bottom lip trembled as I slowly nodded. I knew in my heart that Drake would do everything in his power to protect me, but what if he was too late? Diego was unpredictable from what I saw last night. I was shaking to my core.
Aunt Rose came in then, smiling as she walked over and took the chair on the other side of my bed. Her gaze moved between me and Drake before she patted my hands.
"Do not be weary, lynn, nothing is going to happen to you," Aunt Rose said softly.
"How do you know that?" Drake asked.
Her smile turned to him as her eyes twinkled. "There's a lot of things that I just know, Drake. For instance, you used to think you were nothing but a fuck stick before lynn came along. Oh, and let's not forget the time you gave every last penny in your pocket to a homeless man in the back alley of a strip club. You went hungry so he didn't have to."
I watched Drake's blood drain from his face before he glared at me. It was interesting to see his face after such a personal revelation and I wondered if my face looked the same the first time Aunt Rose wowed me.
"How d-did you know that?" Drake stuttered.
She smirked. "A life long gift, my boy. They call it being psychic now."
Drake's mouth opened and dropped like a fish before he gripped my hand tighter.
"So that was awesome." We all laughed together before Drake asked, "You think that lynn is going to be safe tonight?"
Auto Rose nodded. "I know that she'll be safe tonight. And I can assure you that your sister Dakota will be okay too, but you should know that dark times lie ahead for her. She's going to need you both more than ever."
Drake gulped. "Is she going to lose her baby?" He whispered.
My eyes whipped to Aunt Rose when I saw her brows pinch together. I didn't like the look of that at all. Before she could reply, the doctor came in and interrupted our little conversation.
They both stepped back to give the doctor space, but I didn't miss the way Drake stared at Aunt Rose with pure terror on his face. The doctor looked through my charts and asked me several questions Rose when I saw her brows pinch together. I didn't like the look of that at all. Before she could reply, the doctor came in and interrupted our little conversation.
They both stepped back to give the doctor space, but I didn't miss the way Drake stared at Aunt Rose with pure terror on his face. The doctor looked through my charts and asked me several questions about my pain levels before he smiled and agreed to release me. Part of me was relieved to get the hell out of here, while the other part feared what that meant. I'd hold onto Aunt Rose's words though. She knew I would be safe tonight and I believed her.
After the doctor left, Drake helped me out of bed as I clung to him while shooting pains ripped through my ribcage. Aunt Rose helped him remove my hospital gown while Drake helped dress me. It was the most painful experience I'd been through and I wanted to scream. Once they were done, I sat on the side of the bed completely out of breath and sweat lined my upper lip and back of my neck.
Drake knelt down in front of me as he gripped my knees. "Are you okay, baby?"
I nodded through the pain, taking one deep breath after the next. It was excruciatingly painful, but I could manage.
Micky came in then and watched me intently. "Are you going to be okay doing this tonight? You look like you're going to pass out."
I chuckled. "I'll be fine. Dakota and Luis's life counts on me being there tonight. I'm ready."
Drake put his arm beneath mine and helped me to my feet, taking full reins as we left my hospital room. I had no idea how tonight would exactly go down but I believed Aunt Rose's words. I'd be okay and this would be over before I knew it, and that was something I had to believe.
