Chapter 150: I don't like her

After I finished pacing, I slumped down on the couch beside Pierre and rested my head on his shoulder. Drake had been in his office for over an hour and all I wanted to do was see if he was okay but I also didn't want to get yelled at.
"Do you think he's okay?" I asked Lucas.
"Oh, honey, that boy is just fine. We all need those alone moments to get our head on straight. He'll be back to normal before you even know it."
But I noticed the way his tone was flat. He didn't believe his words, but simply told me them for comfort. I'd much rather have the truth than some bullshit sugar coating.
"I can't believe Dakota would do that to Drake. She might have been afraid to tell him about Lex, but she adored him." I honestly didn't understand her motives. From what Drake had told me about his childhood, how could anyone trust them?
Luis wrapped an arm around me. "People are crazy, lynn. We don't always know who people truly are.
Dakota has her reasons."
I was about to reply when the doorbell rang. My nerves were fried and I honestly thought it might be Dakota coming back to apologize. Who am I kidding? It wouldn't be her. I saw the way she looked at Drake as she left. She wasn't coming back. Part of me was actually relieved she was gone because Drake already had so much on his plate, but the other part of me worried because this was just another thing he had to worry about.
I left luis to answer the front door, completely stunned when I opened it. There were two ridiculously gorgeous people standing on our doorstep and I didn't recognize either of them. The guy was tall and lean, muscles stretching his shirt sleeves. His dark brunette hair was shaved with a perfect fade, but it was his eyes that struck me. Bright green globes looked back at me as a playful smirk tugged at his lips.
"Hey, you must be lynn." He stuck his hand out to shake, but I only glanced down at it with weary eyes. Who the hell was this guy? "Um, sorry to barge in. The name's Lane Parker."
I swallowed hard. Lane Parker? The porn star from out West? The porn star that got Drake drunk?
"H-hi," I stuttered as my gaze moved to the woman standing just behind him.
She was an older lady, but still as gorgeous as ever. Her long blonde hair reached her hips that were perfectly shaped like an hourglass. I noticed that she was skin and bones with the most voluptuous breasts I had ever seen. They were totally fake.
Her gaze studied me just as much as I studied her. Who the hell was this too? My head wasn't in the right space to deal with more shit today.
"This is Brooke Saddle," Lane said as he pointed at her behind him.
My jaw nearly hit the ground. This was Brooke Saddle? I really checked her out then, wondering how Drake fell for a woman like her. She wasn't his type at all. Actually, I didn't really know what his type was. He'd never been with anyone before me so I had nothing to go off of, but she definitely looked nothing like me.
"Is Drake around?" Lane asked, pulling me out of my daze.
"He's, um, in his office, but I don't think he wants company."
"Lane?" Drake's voice came from behind me as I jumped and spun around. He didn't look at me once as he approached them. "What the hell are you guys doing here?" He shook Lane's hand before giving Brooke a hug.
I watched the entire time, wondering when or if he was going to introduce me. They talked and laughed with one another as I stood there completely invisible.
"We thought we'd surprise you and get this shit figured out," Lane replied.
"You weren't answering your phone," Brooke added.
My eyes flitted between the three of them as I still stood behind Drake. He wasn't looking at me at all.
"I'm lynn," I blurted out as I stepped in front of Dominick and shook their hands. If he wasn't going to introduce me, I was going to do it myself.
"Shit, I'm sorry, babe," Drake said as he placed his hand on the small of my back. "This is my girlfriend lynn." Then he looked down at me with so much love on his face that I nearly melted. I was no longer angry with him. Maybe his mind was too scrambled to remember?
"It's a pleasure to meet the woman who brought Drake Hudson to his knees." Lane laughed as he shook my hand back. "You're a very mysterious woman that the industry can't wait to get a hold of."
Drake laughed. "Over my dead body."
I glanced between the two of them. "Get a hold of?"
Drake glared at Lane, but it was obvious Lane wasn't going to hold back. "Yeah, you're Drake Hudson's girlfriend. He's never had one of those before. Plus, there's talk that you might do some scenes now that Drake has his own studio."
My cheeks blushed as I nervously laughed and shook my head. Me? Do a scene? Now that was hilarious. My eyes moved to Brooke's as she continued to study me, a look of judgement on her face. What the hell was that all about?
"The only scene Lynn's going to do is in my bedroom," Drake growled. "Or on any other surface in our home."
Lane chuckled. "I got you, brother. I'm not the one who came up with the idea. Don't kill the messenger." Then he hooked his arm around Brooke's neck and pulled her forward. "We came by to see how we could help get things moving at the studio."
Drake groaned. "Yeah, I'm sorry, I've had a stressful morning. I was planning on heading to the studio today but now seems as good of a time as ever." Then he glanced down at me. "You want to join us, babe?"
"Yes," I blurted out as my cheeks blushed again. I didn't miss the urgency in my reply, but was glad when Drake chuckled and lowered his lips to my temple to kiss me.
"Great, let's go." Drake led me through the front door before he shouted over his shoulder. "Luis! Come on, man, we're heading to the studio!"
Luis came running around the corner, almost sliding into the wall before he glanced up and saw who was at the door.
"Oh, it's them."
Drake laughed before he gently punched Luis's arm. "Yeah, it's them and they're here to help. Get your shoes on, we're heading out."
"What about Dakota and-"
"We're heading out," Drake repeated as he cut Pierre off, pinning him with his glare.
Okay. Well, that told me that he didn't want to discuss the Dakota thing. Maybe it was a good thing if we let him just ignore it for now. Lord knew he had enough on his plate already. Luis huffed out a small sigh before he slipped into his fancy leather loafers.
"Can we stop and get food on the way? I'm starving," luis whined.
"I've got something you can eat," Brooke said as she wrapped her arm around his neck and led us all toward the cars.
"Ew, gross," luis replied.
I snickered into my hand as we all made our way to our own vehicles. Luis peeled himself away from Brooke before he jumped into the backseat of Drake's Audi. I slid in the passenger side as Drake slid in behind the wheel. I reached over and took his hand before he brought mine up to his mouth.
"I saw the tension between you and Brooke," Drake said. "I want you to know that I haven't thought about that woman in years. She meant nothing to me back then and will only ever be an employee now."
I slowly nodded my head, believing his words but I couldn't say the same for her. Drake might be the professional one in this, but I had a bad feeling that Brooke would try to cause problems between us. I'd give her the benefit of the doubt for now, but if she tried to pull one thing, she was fucking gone.
Drake backed out of the garage before we took off down the road. Lane was right behind us and I couldn't stop myself from glancing in the mirror to find her in the reflection. I wouldn't let her get the best of me, but I hated that I had to be on high alert once again. Would my entire life with Drake be me looking out for the next bimbo who wanted him? God, I hoped not.
"Um, hello!" Luis cried from the backseat. "We've literally passed several restaurants. I'm starving and nobody wants to deal with a hungry luis."
"Calm down, man. We'll get you a Snickers bar," Drake joked.
"So not funny!" Luis whined.
"Sorry. I'll call in a huge order when we get to the studio. I'm sure you're not the only one who's hungry."
"It better be Waffle House or I don't want it."
I stole a glance at Drake as he smirked over at me with a wink. Then he mouthed 'I love you' and my heart nearly melted out of my chest. Today might be a good one after all.
