Chapter 49: It's you I want

Dakota frowned, shaking her head. "I couldn't imagine losing my siblings. Drake has been my rock." She reached over and took his hand in hers. It was a beautiful moment, but the second I saw the way he looked at his sister and I was a goner.

I cleared my throat and had to look away. He was becoming something I didn't want to see because deep down, I was still trying to talk myself out of wanting him for more than just sex.

"I'll bet your parents miss you," Dakota stated, making me nod.

"Yeah, and I miss them as well. They knew why I had to move across the country and supported my decision." I looked over at Drake and saw him glaring at me. Okay, he seriously needed to stop that. "Luis is here, my best friend, and they knew he'd take good care of me."

Dakota nodded, seeming to understand what I was saying. "Well, I must meet this Luis guy sometime soon. I mean...." She trailed off, blushing. "Is he single?"

This time, it was Drake who burst out laughing. "I'd have a better chance of being with Luis than you, sis." He stood up from his spot and I was thankful, knowing I wouldn't have to continue talking about myself anymore.

"Boo! All the good men are gay or married!" Dakota pouted and then grinned over at her brother. "Except you, you're just too damn stubborn to settle down with anyone that matters."

"Because no body does," Drake growled out, looking at me for a split second before he tore his gaze from mine.

The ping to my heart was noticable but I told myself that his words didn't matter. This was just sex. We never spoke of anything other than that. There was absolutely no need for me to get my panties in a twist over a statement that didn't matter.

Dakota yawned, leaning back in her chair. "Okay, y'all, I'm exhausted and there is an expensive memory foam bed upstairs with my name on it." She stood up and I followed suit, looking over at Drake before Dakota added, "no need to rush off on my account. You two have your glasses of wine to finish up." She leaned forward and kissed Drake on the cheek and I swear I heard her whisper something to him but her words were inaudible to me.

His gaze found mine again as Dakota rounded the table and gave me a hug, whispering to my ear.

"Give him a chance, Lynn. He adores you." She kissed my cheek then and sauntered out of the dining room, disappearing out of sight.

I looked over at Drake, feeling the silence crackle between us the longer we stood there without saying a word.

"It's a nice night out," he stated, nodding toward the patio door, "would you like to finish your wine with me outside? I can walk you home afterward."

I nodded, trying to figure out what I wanted to say but came up empty.

He stepped outside and I followed right behind him. My heart pounded in my chest as I took a seat on the loveseat wicker sofa. Dominick joined me, pressing into my side as shivers ran up my arm.

Silence stretched between us before we both tried to speak at the same time.

"Dinner was..."

"Thanks for..."

We both chuckled and he then waved for me to continue.

"I was just saying that diner was amazing."

He laughed, nodding his head. "I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't get to cook as much as I like to anymore but I try to make time for it." He stared straight ahead and then turned to look at me. "Thanks for coming over and sitting with Dakota today. I know you didn't have to but you did nonetheless."

"It was no problem at all. I actually really enjoyed sitting with her, she's a very special girl."

Dominick stared over at me, slowly nodding his head. "Yeah, she's very special"

"And you two seem to have a really close relationship. it's admirable and I wish I had that with my own sister."

"Yeah, well, it isn't always like this. We both have our problems and tend to butt heads more often than not. If you saw how we were when she arrived, you wouldn't be saying this right now."

I chuckled. "It's perfectly normal to butt heads with your siblings. Especially when you care about them so much." I

nudged his shoulder with mine, smirking up at him, but when he looked back down at me with his sultry expression I nearly melted.

Our eyes stayed connected for what seemed like and then his eyes went down to my lips. A shiver ran up my spine as I licked my lips, remembering what we had stared upstairs just a few hours ago and how I really wanted to do that again.

And then I moved.

Leaning into him for a kiss, I expected pure passion, but instead, he turned his face and my lips landed on his cheek.

"Lynn...."

Fuck. There it is. I knew he acted funny when I came over and the sex was different and then he kicked me out the back door, but I wasn't expecting him to be the one to end things. My cheeks reddened and I sat away from him, feeling like embarrassment just slapped me in the face.

"I'm sorry. I completely read that situation incorrectly. I was caught up in a moment that clearly isn't there." I was rambling, something I only did when I was nervous. "We made a deal and I almost screwed it up. Of course you don't want to kiss me and..."

"Lynn," he cut me off, "I want nothing more than to kiss you right now." He was looking at me but I kept my eyes on my hands, too shy to look into his at the moment. "I want to drag you onto my lap and kiss you so passionately that no other man would compare. I want to slide my hands beneath that Metallica t shirt and feel your bare breasts as you moan into my mouth."
