Chapter 39: Wild Desires

"Hey, sugar. What brings you in this early?" She put a glass of water in front of me before raising the coffee canteen in her hand, silently asking if I wanted some?
I shook my head at the coffee, not needing any caffeine to fuck with my already racing thoughts.
"I just needed a breather from work," I replied, knowing that was only the half of it.
Her lips turned into a frown as she studied me. "I really liked that girl you brought in last night. She seems very sweet. Where'd you find her?"
My lips turned up into a smirk, letting my mind fill with images of Molly. "I found her on an airplane.
She then turned out to be my next door neighbor."
"Uh oh." She set the coffee canteen down at the end of my table before sitting across from me. In all the years that I've come here, I've never seen Deb take a seat with me in the middle of her shift.
My eyes scanned the busier than normal dinner when I saw that there were two other waitresses moving around.
Deb reached across the table and took my hand in hers, surprising the fuck out of me.
"You like her, Drake."
It wasn't a question and the statement caused a rock to lodge into my throat. Yeah, I really fucking liked her, but I shouldn't let myself. It was selfish.
"I thought so. Does she know what you do, honey?"
I cringed at her next question. Deb knew I was in Port and has never judged me for it. Not once. She was like the mother I never had. I shook my head at her, choosing not to use my words just yet.
She inhaled a sharp breath, leaning back in her seat. "You need to tell her, Drake. She deserves to know what you do."
Panic consumed my chest, making me shake my head again. "If I do that, I lose her, Deb."
Her mouth frowned again as she replied, "that's the risk you are going to have to take, but she deserves to know. She seems like a sweet girl and the way she was looking at you last night tells me that she's crazy about you, too. You might be surprised how understanding some one can be when they're in love."
"In love?!" I shouted before letting my nerves come out in laughter.
Deb slowly nodded, eyeing me speculatively. "Yes, sugar, in love. No body looks at some one like she looks at you and not be in love."
It felt like some one sucker punched my right on the gut. I didn't deserve love, especially not Lynn's. I wasn't good enough for her and I hated myself for letting things go this far.
"Fuck," I blew out, rubbing my hands over my face. "Are you sure!"
She chuckled. "Honey, I've been around for many years. I know love when I see it. Don't let that one go." She stood up then and grabbed the coffee canteen once more. "Don't think about it too much, Drake. Let things happen and see where it goes. You might surprise yourself as well." She touched my hands again. "You deserve to be loved, Drake. Every one does." Then she turned and walked away, making me stare after her.
Deb knew about every skeleton in my closet, so if she says I deserve love, then maybe I do. Fuck, this can't be happening right now. I'm about to have a panic attack.
Pushing from my spot, I stormed out of the diner and nearly ran for my Audi. Coming here to clear my head only made things worse. Then I remembered a bottle of whiskey with my name on it back at my place and that's where I headed next.

LYNN'S POV
My heart was nearly pounding out of my chest as I crossed my lawn and onto Drake's. His Audi was parked in the driveway instead of the garage and for some reason, that only made me more nervous. Something felt off but I couldn't put my finger on it. I know I think too far into things, but that's who I was. Pushing my shoulders back and taking a deep breath, I approached his front door and knocked.
Nothing. So, I did knock again, and again nothing.
Okay, something is seriously going on and my stomach is in knots. What if he has somebody over? What if he's sleeping? I realized just then that I really knew absolutely nothing about this guy or his habits. I didn't even text or call him to confirm our night, I just assumed and sauntered over here the minute Luis got done putting me in this lingerie and dress. Now I'm standing on his doorstep nearly naked and feeling like a fucking idiot.
Turning, I began to walk away with my tail between my legs when a strong, warm hand grabbed the back of my neck and spun me back around. I stared into Drake's dark, brazen gaze when I felt like my heart had stopped beating. He could stare at me like this forever and I would never ask him to stop.
His eyes slid down over my body, taking in the tiny little black number, and growled when his eyes stopped on the thigh high fishnets attached to my garter belt that he couldn't see.
It was obvious that his gaze was turning to pure fire and the longer he stared at me, the faster my skin became a blaze. I swear that if he doesn't start touching me soon, I might lose it. His eyes alone were driving me wild and the good stuff hadn't even started yet.
