Chapter 75

We went outside the hotel and walked for a distance onto the narrow roads. Well, I guess it was fate. The townspeople were celebrating a cowboy fest. Everyone was wearing a hat and Mai eventually gave me one.
“I guess now I understand why you made me change my attire,” I say to Mai.
“Well, it would definitely look stupid if you wear a gown instead of cowboy shoes.”

“I guess that’s fair.” Everyone was dancing, swinging their bodies and meeting new people. And from the looks of it, Stella and Hailey may have already found ‘their one’. Meanwhile, Jay already had eyes on a cute chica.
They were celebrating together. Even their dressing sense was like each other.
We were following the residents and tourists in a direction that lead to an enormous field with lots of games and, well, rides.
“Oh, my GOD! This would be the best trip I’ve ever been to!” Says Hailey.
“Well, you may be right there,” Stella added.
“Let’s go!” Jay says while holding her ‘lover’s’ hand.

We all joined them and literally spent most of our money and time on food and drinks. But it was so so so worth it. I never enjoyed the way I was enjoying it now. And around..genuine people. Yes, I do not trust them the way I trusted Natalia, But I do a little.
They’re the reason I’m still sane, friend-wise. I never wanted to be the woman who’s got a good, horribly attractive billionaire, but no friend circle.
“Hey hey, a little toast.” Hailey gathers the girls around.
“I just...want to say that. I’m really glad I came with you all on this trip. If it was my relatives or my sister’s, you may have found my dead by now.”

“Oh shush, Hailey. Shut up.”
“Just listen. I guess I’m saying is, I’m glad to have you all in my life and...I partially love each and one of you.”
“That’s really sweet Hailey,” everyone cheers her playfully and we sip the shot in one go.
“Ugh...Strong, I say.”
“Anna, do you mind getting me a bottle of water? I think some of it got in my nose.”
“How are you still breathing?”
“It’s vodka, Hailey, not poison.”
“Of course,” I say and I walk towards the ‘Bar’.
The bartender was facing the drinks instead of me, maybe making a drink or something like that.
“Hi, Can I....uh...have a bottle of water?”
He turns and looked straight right into my eyes.
“Of course,” He gives me a brief smile and a grin, which I was not expecting.
“Do you need anything else, Miss?” He asks.
“Oh no, thank you. I’m fine.”
“Well, I’m always here for your service.” He passes me the bottle. As soon as I take it from his hand, our fingers touched only for a second, though it gave me the electricity I never thought I’ll be feeling.
I paused for a minute and I couldn’t even realise that I was staring at him.
“Are you okay?”
I shook my head instantly, twitching my eyes and smiling to hide the embarrassment.
“Ye..yeah, I’m fine. I am sorry, it may be the booze taking over me.”
“Totally understandable. I figure you’re here on vacation?”
“yeah, with some of my friends.”
“I see, just the ladies?”
I chuckle. I knew why he was asking me this question.
“Yeah, this trip was all about the girls, so boys weren’t allowed. We can’t even talk to them. It’s forbidden.”
“Haha, I see. Well, you have really lovely friends.”
“Thanks, I guess.”
“Don’t worry, you’re the prettiest of them all.” He winks and gives me a satanic grin. It was like he was loving the idea of me melting into all his sweet-talking. Maybe it was working, maybe not.
Before I could say anything else...
“There you are!” Mai comes from behind and literally makes me shiver to my bitter core.
“Don’t catch me off guard, Mai,” I say.
“Well, I had to. You were taking so long so I....hellowww,” Mai says while looking at the bartender.
“I believe we haven’t met.” She extends her hand for him to shake. And he takes it.
“I’m Mai, and you are.?” she says. I don’t even know how is she talking so smoothly. Maybe this is the side of her which only comes out when she’s drunk. Sober? She’s close to a boring person but sweet.
The guy smiles and finally says..."I’m Carlo."
“Nice to meet you, Car-lo,” she tries saying it seductively but ends up coughing.
“Are you okay?”
“I shouldn’t be eating so many tacos with vodka.” She says while she runs away to throw up in the corner.
“I...uh...I’m sorry you had to see that.” I say to Carlo.
“Don’t worry about it. Wouldn’t be the first time I’m watching someone throw up. This usually happens around here.”
“Not a magnificent view, is it?”
“Haha, yeah.”
“Uh..Listen, I should go back, my friends are waiting and Mai totally needs me so..”
“Oh yeah yeah, don’t let me stop you, yet.”
We both gazed at each other for a while before giggling as I walk over to Mai.
“Okay, let’s go. The party’s over for today so. Come on.”
“Oh...no...The partiieee...just started.”
I put her arm around me and help her go back to her soon and got her settled in. As soon as Ifigured, it was nighttime. Mai sure was in her room, still asleep, so the 4 of us stopped by and had dinner before walking back into our rooms.
I look inside my purse to check for messages but I quickly recalled I left my phone in my room.
“Shit, I need to go back to my room.”
“Why...what happened?”
“I left my phone up there. Ethan must be concerned.”
I knew all the girls were like, ‘Girl he knows where you are’, Girl doesn’t he trust you’ extravaganza but. I needed to talk to him for my sake. I ignored them and rushed inside my room. But...the door was already open.
“Hello?” I say in a smooth voice at first. Not making any quick sound, I try to look into the dark place.
“Is anyone there?”
Suddenly, the lights turn on and I see Ethan sitting on the couch.
“ETHAN?!”
“Where the hell were you?!”
