Chapter 72

Every single day, there would be ‘media’ all over our houses. I officially moved from Ethan’s hotel room to his house. And I have to say, I made some good friends. Turns out, Mai was actually fun to hang out with. Even if she was sometimes a bitch at work, she was more fun outside.
We actually became good friends. Maybe I finally got my maid of honour.
Oh yeah, back to the wedding, even if we knew what we wanted. Ethan and I took our time to make sure that we were actually stuck with each other.

And honestly? Weddings are not something this generation wants or needs to express their love for each other. You can do that in any type of relationship. If you truly desire the other person and he/she does that too, they’ll stay loyal to you even if there’s no ‘commitment’.
Well, it was mine and Ethan’s opinion. We genuinely did everything with mutual communication. It was good.
Jonathan was..well...frustrated with my choice. He would often ignore me whenever he’d talk to someone and I walk past them. He would simply ignore me. I had no absolute right to ask him for us to stay friends. Even if we did that practically, there would be a time when one of us would slip. I guess it was better that way.
But...
--Knock knock--
“Come in,” I say.

Jonathan walks into my office, mostly confused and sorry.
“Jonathan! What...I...?” I didn’t know exactly how I should have reacted to his situation. It was almost a month when he ignored the existence of me. And now, suddenly, he wants to talk? Please don’t be another game.
“Hey...I..” He was actually trying to figure out what to say. And this was getting awkward.
“Come on, Jonathan. Enough with the formalities. You and I both know, apart from this situation, we do care for each other.”

Jonathan passes me a brief smile and sat right in front of me on the chair.
“So, when are you getting married?”
“Pretty straightforward, don’t you think?” I say.
“Well, you asked not to do any formalities.”
“Fair enough,”
“We’re just going with the flow for now. Whenever we feel is the right time, right place, and right date to get married, we will. You know, rushing things would only lead you to downfall. Even if the initial path seems clear.”
“That’s...accepting.” He says.
“What do you mean?”
He looked straight into my eyes, leaned in on the desks, changed his emotions to complete smirk.
“Maybe the reason that you’re taking so much time is because of...well...me.”
“You? How?”
“Well,” He gets up from his chair and started circling around me.
“Maybe you’re still worried if you made the right choice. Maybe you’re forcing yourself to think that you want to be with Ethan.”
“That’s not-“
“And maybe because...you’re still in love with me.”
He stops right in front of me, after putting on his show, and stares.
“Maybe you know what you actually need, Anna. You just don’t want to declare that your truth.”
“That’s stupid, Jonathan. It’s been over a month since you’ve even looked at me. Let alone talk. Now you come here and talk about what I felt for you and if I made the right choice. Stupid!”
“Your body language says differently.”
I stay silent, waiting for him to give me a valid reason I should believe Him!
“Think about it. You said yes to Ethan after we had our fight. You said yes to him right after that. Maybe because deep down you had this fear of losing everyone. So you thought holding onto one would be a better choice for you.”
“Okay! Out!”
I stand up instantly and actually shout at him.
Instead of being offended, he actually gives me the most beautiful, sexy, soothing smile he could ever give.
“I know what you really need, Anna. I sure took a long time to figure that out. But you and I both know what I can provide for you. More than Ethan could ever do. Think about it.”
He says, and he turns to walk out of my office.
“I’ll always be waiting for you, Anna.”
He opens the door and Ethan walks in. They exchanged ‘lay one hand on her and I’ll feed it to dogs’ glare.
Jonathan walks out and Ethan comes over to me. He says nothing, he just pulls me in for a long hug and kissed my forehead.
“What did he say to you?” He asks.
“Something really, really stupid.”
“Do I need to be worried about it?”
I break the hug and stare right into Ethan’s eyes, with tears forming up on my own.
“No, no. Trust me, it’s not worth it. Just...leave it.”
“Anna, you know I-“
“Trust me, Ethan, please.”
I say and I walk out of my office. Okay, I admit it, this was not how I should have tackled the situation, but. Jonathan made me crazy after saying all those words. I don’t know how stupid things coming from a person who you thought was just a friend to you can affect you so much.
He got to me. I was actually questioning everything now. Maybe I said yes to Ethan because I didn’t have any other choice. And I wasn’t even sure if what he said was actually the harsh truth or if he was just being an ass. This may be a trick, or maybe not.
“OKAY, WHAT THE FUCK!”
--At the bar--
“Come on, it can’t be that bad,” says Mai.
“You do not know! It was like he...like he may have read my mind, but not from today’s. It was like he time travelled, and went back to where I first figured out my feelings for both of them. And he’s actually using this information....NOW!”
“Oooh, I get where you are.”
“You do?”
“Actually, no, but you can figure out who you genuinely want to be with.”
“How?”
“Two ways. First, plan a trip with each of them individually. If you feel that you were supposed to be with them, you’ve got your answer. But this process is actually lengthy.”
“And the second?”
“Sleep with Jonathan for the last time,”
“What?”
“Look, I know it’s sketchy. But...think this. What if Jonathan is undressing himself in front of you, but in your mind, all you think about is Ethan? That way, you’ll know that you want and need to be with him. You know, after feeling guilty about what you were about to do and...yada, yada.”
“I got it, I got it.”
“If you sleep with him, you’ll have your answer then, too.”
“And the bright side? If you don’t go through with it, you’ll be sure about what you feel and no person would get between you and Ethan, but if you do, be ready for what’ll happen...”
“Next.”
