Chapter 43

“We may adjust to the start, but later, you know what’ll happen. And I kinda don’t want to leave this job so.”
We both giggled a little as he cupped and kissed my forehead.
“Can you try?” I ask, looking into his eyes, pleading.
“I can try.”
“Thank you, Ethan.”
He smiled and locked his lips on me before breaking our interlocked action. He bit my lower lip, filling me with electricity and pushing me away.
“Get back to work now,” he said playfully and in a deep voice.
I laugh and I walk out of the office.
I guess I should probably check on Nat. While sitting back in my office, I took out my phone texting her.
“How’s my guardian?”
“She’s alright, watching a movie, a spooky one.”
“Have you locked the doors just in case?”
“Why? Is someone coming?”
“Just precaution.”
“Stop it, Angie! You know I get easily scared!”
“Haha, don’t worry. I already locked the doors and windows before coming here. Did you eat?”
“I did.”
“Shouldn’t you be working?”
“Ugh, you sound like Et...” I was about to type that. She sounded like Ethan, but I stopped.
“Alright, catch up with you soon.”
“XOXO.”
Naturally, I didn’t want to let Nat know anything about Ethan. Last night was creepy itself, I don’t want to make every single day like that. Shaking my head, I got back to work. Within 3 minutes, Ethan brought me back the files. Of course, by another employee. I knew he couldn’t risk coming to my office himself. Sure, there was a valid reason, but we both just couldn’t risk it.
The whole day passed putting those numbers and alphabets, and finally, it was time to meet Doctor Herbert.
Before I walked out of the building, I stopped. I realised I didn’t see Jonathan the whole day. I was still early, so I thought a quick visit would be okay. I went to his office to check if he was free or not. Weirdly, the office was empty. Jonathan wasn’t here. At first, I thought he might look over some stuff of his own, so I guess I could leave him a message.
While walking out, there was a room where we kept some files locked and there were noises coming out from there. And they broke the doorlock too. Must be some colleagues getting it. Before I could ignore it and walk away. I hear Clara.
As I open the door I never, I’ll be seeing what I’ll be seeing.
Jonathan was kissing Clara. I stood there, and it wasn’t long before they realised I was there watching them. My eyes go wide as Jonathan looks at me with this terrible expression of anxiety.
“Angelica? Wait! This isn’t how it looks like.”
I walk out from there, trying to delete the picture of the both of them kissing. The idea itself was terrible, but watching them go at it was fucking worst.
“Angelica!”
Jonathan was calling me from behind, but I didn’t stop. I picked up my pace and ran out of the building. After getting into my car, I drove around for a few minutes before meeting Doctor Herbert. I never ever imagined that Jonathan would do something like this to me. I thought he was more than that.
I guess he’s just like the others.
It was already time to meet the Doctor, so I drove to the hospital at last.
I was waiting at the reception for the doc to be available, and he was. I just didn’t realise that the receptionist was calling my name again and again.
“Ms Angelica May.”
“Ye.. yes, that’s me.”
“Dr Herbert will see you now.”
“Okay, I...” Nothing I would say can make this situation better, so I just ignore it and went to the doctor’s office.
“Evening, Ms May.”
“Hello, Doctor. How’ve you been?”
“Ah, you know the usual. Nothing I say would ease you, unfortunately. I hope Natalia’s all well?”
“Actually, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. She’s behaving, differently.”
“Differently?”
“It’s like she’s having some side effect. Last night I had a friend over and she made us both awkward. Nat was staring at us like we were strangers or something and when I asked her about what happened yesterday, she did not know.”
“Well, side effects from certain medications can lead to small-term amnesia, but we never gave her a high dose.”
“So... what’s causing her unusual behaviour?”
“Well, it’s valid if she accidentally fell down and hit her head on the floor, but the X-ray didn’t show us anything severe.”
“What should I do?”
“It’s only happened once, right? Give her another week. Lack of sleep and tiredness can lead to mood swings. And yes, they’re temporary, in her case, if that is what that is. But if this unusual behaviour keeps pointing up. You’ll have to bring her again for some brain tests.”
“Alright, thank you, doctor.”
“Good day, Angelica.”
I gave him a smile and went out of the room. This may cause weakness and mood swings. I mean, I get cranky whenever I can’t find something good to eat soon. And it’s Nat we’re talking about. She’s the queen of mood swings.
--Beep beep--
“When are you back?” Nat texts me.
“Soon. Is something wrong?”
“No. Not at all. Just got a little scared after watching that creepy stalker movie.”
“Haha, I’ll be there in 15. Want me to bring you something?”
“Just some clothes and a new dog.”
“See you soon, Bye.”
“I hate you.”
This is the Nat I knew. The cheerful one, not the creepy one. I still wasn’t sure what was happening with her, but all I knew was.
There’s gonna be a clash if it happens again.
