Chapter 32

“Serious? Always, Ms May.”
“But.. How can we possibly pull that off? I mean..I..”
Ethan turns his body to me, gazing deep into my eyes before making them fall on my lips. He cups my face with both his hands.
“This is going to be perfect if you want it to be, Ms May. If not, I can arrange a room for you in Hotel.”
“Oh no, I can’t ask you to do that, No..”
“Oh, don’t worry, the hotel would be one of mine.”
“You own a hotel?”
Ethan chuckles and kisses my forehead.
“I own a lot of hotels, Ms May.”
“Sure you do. But I can’t. I wouldn’t feel okay with it. It feels more like... charity.”
“We can work with that,” Ethan says.
“What do you mean?”
“I’ll hire you as my 24/7 personal assistant. You can use the room I usually stay in at the hotel, and we can work on business files which I can gain help with whenever I need you, together. This way, you’ll be working for me. That won’t be called charity. So. what do you say?”
I thought about this because I don’t know how many minutes. Even though I liked it or not, I needed a place to stay and Ethan’s offer wasn’t all negative. I could stay in a hotel room till I get back on my feet again, which I knew wouldn’t take long. And if he’s gonna be maintaining a Boss/Assistant relation then, that’s what I needed.
“Okay, but just for a few days before I...”
“I know, Ms May. I won’t be forcing you.”
“This is a stupid idea, you know that?”
“For me? Probably the first that I’ve ever experienced.” Ethan gives me a long, seducing gaze.
“Of course.” I chuckle and curled up in Ethan’s arms for a while.
The day passed and before I could realize it, I was already half asleep. All I wanted was to go home and have a long, pleasant sleep with no obstruction. This day made me feel a little more sane again. I was going crazy because of all that drama. I just couldn’t have that boring but exciting routine back in my life.
“Where do you want to go first? My place or directly to the hotel?”
“I guess your place would be fine. I need to pick up a few things first.”
“All right.”
I open my phone to check for some important messages. I accidentally open the chats with Nat.
“Look, Angelica. I... I’m sorry for what I did was wrong.”
“Just please try to hear me out. I promise you, what I did was for your own protection. Bringing Roger here wasn’t my actual idea. It was something else.”
“Please. Please consider meeting in person, Angelica. I’ll explain everything to you.”
Ugh.. Again with this fucking headache. The pain was becoming severe each time. I don’t know what it was, but it sucked. I try to hide the disruption from Ethan, but damn, he catches on quickly.
“You okay?” He asks.
“I’m fine. I’m just having these massive headaches. Which I really don’t know why.”
“Well, I can ask the doctor to come check up on you again.”
“I don’t think it’s that severe right now. Don’t worry, I’ll just have some painkillers or something.”
We reached Ethan’s place and I see a jeep standing in front of his gate with a bouncer or something guarding it.
“Hey is that yours?”
Ethan looks in the direction I was pointing it. His eyes turned all red, and he got frustrated instantly.
“Stay here.”
Ethan walks towards the bouncer who knocks on the window of the car. I see someone sitting and talking to Ethan, almost arguing. I couldn’t hear anything what they were saying, but I knew it wasn’t about something peaceful.
Before I could react, the bouncer goes around the car and gets in before driving off away. I could feel his intensity and anger coming out of Ethan perfectly. Why did those guys come here and what exactly did they talk about? Was I right about Ethan? Oh no, Even if I was, GOD! Give me a break. A little 24-hour break. For once.
He calmed himself before walking towards the car I was in and he opens the door. I get out and I wanted to ask what happened, but I was almost afraid to do so.
I still did.
“Is everything okay?”
He stayed quiet, locking his car as he signs me to come inside. I follow up with him. I could see he didn’t want to scare me off, so he maintained his breath and calmed himself once again while taking some long deep breaths and offered me a glass of wine.
“Want some?”
“Sure.”
He poured himself a whiskey and passed me my drink. After giving me mine, he stayed by the counter, not wanting to make eye contact. I get up and walked towards him. To make him feel better, I brushed my hands down his back and shoulders and I hugged Ethan from behind. I could feel his heartbeat picking up its normal pace.
“Whatever it was, Ethan, I know you can solve it no matter what.”
“I hope you’re right Ms May.”
“I know you can.” I push back and make him turn his body towards me.
“Building this empire wasn’t easy, but you did it right? So I know whatever that was, you’ll solve it too. And if you need help, I’m all yours.” I kissed Ethan’s cheek, which made him smile and blush a little.
“Wow, Ethan Cooper blushing? That’s new,”
I try to make the air a little less intense. But he seemed like he just wanted someone to listen. Before I could say anything further to change his negativity or whatever he was feeling, he spoke first instead.
“I’ve done some bad things. Ms May.”
I was shocked listening to what he was saying. Bad things? How and what kind exactly? The only bad thing that I could come up with was illegal stuff. Like drug transporting or trafficking or something.
“It’s not the ones you’re thinking about right now.” He clarifies.
“So... What bad things, exactly?”
I knew he was about to tell me but... he shook his head and pushed me away, not harshly but with a slight force.
“It’s getting late, Ms May. Come on. I’ll drop you at the hotel and we can check you in.”
Just like that, he grabs his car keys and walks towards the main door, towards where the car was parked.
“I’ll wait for you outside.”
Ethan had a lot of demons in him, I could say, but this one was the only one I couldn’t figure out.
“What exactly are you hiding, Ethan Cooper?”
