Rori-POV
I am walking around outside of phoebes' house to get fresh air.
Three month now since the attack, since i was rejected...and i'm almost fully healed. There is still a small pain in my right leg that causes me to limp lightly once in a while.
"Your up earlie."
Phoebe commented as she walked out of the house. I looked at her over my shoulder and nodded my head. She walked over to stand next to me and let the morning sun warm her face.
"How are you feeling?" She asked with her eyes closer.
"I'm feeling better." I answered with a smile. And its not entirly false either. My wounds are well healed. I am also able to help around the house as little as i can.
The nightmares come and go sometimes. Its always almost the same. Three other beings being chained as i was and that ghostly figure that seemed to look at all of us as if we are fresh food.
But the biggest struggle is the rejection. It might not be constant, but that horrible pain i felt that night when he said the words of rejection, when he held me like he wouldn't let me go only to break me apart would visit me at night.
Day in and day out, i found myself thinking about adalwolf. He didn't want a weak mate. Just a human. I couldn't blame him. Even my own parents were ashmed of me...
"Don't."
I jumped as i felt phoebes' hand on my shoulder.
"Don't let your thoughts wounder to something you can't undo. It will unravel itself when the time comes."
She placed her other hand on my other shoulder and she turned me to face the stack of silver arrows i had seen a couple of weeks ago.
"Come on."
She pulls me closer to the arrows but i pulled back. It's silver. Every part of the arrow including the bow. I am not about to touch it.
Phoebe picks up a single silver arrow to show it to me. I can tell that she is expecting me to take it out of her hand but i shook my head.
"What's wrong?" She asked as she saw the hesitation in my eyes.
"It's silver. It will burn me." I commented but soon frowned as i remembered the cruel reality. I'm not a werewolf. I am just a human so silver is useless on me. Unless...
I quickly reached out and snached the arrow from phoebes' hand and held it firmly in my own. There was nothing. No burning feeling. No loss of energy or even a tiny bit of pain. All i feel the the cold silver weighing against my hand.
All the hope i had was suddenly crushed. I'm not burned by silver. If a wolf is not tamed by silver, then its not a wolf at all.
My father had been wrong. There was nothing he or anyone could do to fix me. I should have known a long time ago. I lacked all the extra abilities pups would have when they are born. I had no super strengh, no speed, no super sence...just a mere human. Even our alpha, adalwolfs' father failed to draw the shifter energy from me, which was the final sign that i was born defective.
I clenched the arrow tightly as tears burned my eyes. I tired to swallow past the lump in my throat. I tired to keep the tears at bay, but i failed.
Once again, i am left a crying mess, knowing that i was a poor excuse of a supernatural being. I balled my hands in to a fist at my side as i saw phoebe bend down to pick the arrow.
"You're not tamed by silver." She commeneted with a soft smile playing on her face "but that doesn't mean you don't have a supernatural force in you. I can feel it. It's strong. All you need to do is believe in yourself, Rori. Our creator always had a way of doing things. Sometimes its too unclear that we think we are left out. But make no mistake, Rori. There will come a time when you will have to learn to accept what you will become. Trust your nature. Then your nature will trust you."
I sniffled as i looked up at her. "I still don't understand half of what you say." My comment make her laugh as she handed me the arrow again.
I took a deep breath before reaching out to it. The arrow is smooth and beautiful. It weighs a little heavy and it shines different rainbows when the sun hits it in different angles. I still have no idea how she got them but they look magnificent.
I touched the arrow with both my hands and tested the pointy end to see how sharp it was and damn...it is SHARP.
"So...what now?"
To answer my question, phoebe picked up the bow and gave it to me. The bow is much larger and heavier. Its entirly silver just as the arrows but the string looked like a hair of a silver horse-if that's even a thing.
I held the bow in my right hand and the arrow in my left in a very awkward way. Phoebe chuckled before moving closer to help me.
"Here." She took the bow and arrow to change their places "hold the bow with your left hand and the arrow with your right. Now, hold the bow at its handle with the string facing you."
She showed me how to hold the bow
"Now hold the arrow closer to the bow so i can show you how to use it."
I held the arrow up and did as she told me to. She showed me how to use three of my fingers to hold the arrow lightly on the string and pulled my elbo back to strech the string further back.
"Pull you thumb out from the handle of the bow to support the back of the arrow."
After showing me how to hold the arrow to the bow, phoebe moved me to a target and shifted away from me.
"Take an aim and shoot."
I followed phoebes' insturction and took a deep breath. I pulled my elbo back until the string touched my right cheek to aim at a near by tree and paused to look at phoebe over my shoukder.
"This feels a lot like the hunger games." I commented, expecting a laugh from her. But she looked at me confused and titled her head to the side.
"Who?"
She asked and i lost my grip on the arrow. A gasp escapes from the both of us as the arrow tore through the forest...
***2 years later***
I have my arrow aimed at a dear too far from my reach. A single sweat extends down the front of my forehead and down the bridge of my nose. I took a deep breath before letting the arrow go.
The arrow goes through the dears neck and she drops on the ground immideatly. With a sigh, i stood up from my hiding and walked over to the dead animal.
The boots made no sound as i made my way through the forest. I looked down at the dear i just killed before closing my eyes. This has been a weekly rutine.
Once a week, i'd hunt for a larger animal. The rest of the time, i'd hunt for smaller ones' just for practice. Phoebe has also been forcing me to hunt in the dark once a week to make me sharper.
Two years has passed since my first leason and i'v been getting better ever since. That first arrow i shot is yet to be found, but the rest of the time, i'v been careful and good.
I threw the dear over my shoulder before picking up my bow with my left hand and walked back home. I stopped to gaze over the forest one more time.
I love it here. More so that i'v been worried that things have been changing lately. I feel on edge and i'm constantly looking over my shoulder.
Phoebe doesn't seem to notice but i have. The forest is changing. The animals are getting smaller by number and it's not because of me. Its like they were moving away. Like they were running from something.
The first year i'v been hunting had been easy. But now, i had to walk almost an hour to even see a sign of life.
A weak sigh escapes my lips as i made my way back to the house. I made sure to keep ramdom thoughts in may head as to not remember any pain causing memories. I don't allow myself to remember them. Not now, not ever.
After stopping twice on my way, i finaly made it back and dropped the dear on the ground. I quickly took off my arrow quiver and my bow to place it next to the dear.
I massaged my stiff shoulder as phoebe made her way out of the house.
"What took you so long?" She asked and i shrugged before telling her that i couldn't find any animals for hours before i came across this one.
She nodded her head before she walked back in. Phoebe got started on lunch as i made it my mission to wash todays long travel off of me.
After a long bath, i walked to my bed room to find phoebe with our lunch.
"That was fast." I commented before taking the plate from her. I didn't realize i was this hungery until the scent hits my nose and soon, i was on beast mode.
Phoebe chuclked as she watched me go crazy on my plate and i was done before she could even finish half of hers. I'v been having a huge appetiet lately and i haven't held back on any of it.
I'm much fuller now. My pity, small, boney figure was no more. Instead, now i have fuller arms and thick tighs. My hair had grown out longer and has more color to it that the ashy blond it used to be. Even my cheek bone were nowhere to be seen. I have a fuller face now. I looked ten time more heathy that i was when i first came here two years ago.
Thanking phoebe for lunch, i took a little nap before she made me go out again. This time though, it wasn't just hunting. It was night and this is where she make me exercise my night vision.
She said that if i wanted to survive, then i need to let my sences guide me in the night. And since i had a horrible night sight, they were mandatory.
I hicked my quiver over my shoulder and grabbed my bow before heading out.
I walked slowly through the forest as the night air blew my long, blond hair back. I paused as the wind grew stronger.
The night air used to be warm and comfortable. But now its cold. Colder that anything i have ever felt in this forest. It felt dark and lonely.
I shook my head as i contiuned to walk through the forest. That sence of coldness followed me everwhere i go. I'd stop once in a while to looked over my shoukder but there is nothing there.
I blew a breath before pulling out one arrow from the quiver and looked around for anything to hit. But, there was nothing. It was too quite. There wasn't even a single noise other that my own breath. That's not right. The forest is not supposed to be this quite.
I suddenly heard a crack and my head snapped towards the noise. After carefuly placing my arrow against the bow, i took a step closer. Making sure that i didn't step on any branchs, i moved to the direction of the sound only to see a disgusting view.
A bear was on the ground. And three creatures surrounded it. The creatures tore through the bear as they feasted his insides. What made me duck down and hide was the fact that this three creatures didn't have any earthly figures. They're just...shadows.
The memory of the attack two years ago starts to play in my head and i suddenly felt panicked.
I looked down at my arrow. I know with out a doubt that it won't help me because there is nothing to shoot at. I am royally scrued.
I slowly leaned forward to look at the creatures from between the bushes that helped me as a cover. I can't make out anything other that there dark figure. Damn you weak eye sight. I cursed myself before gasping when i heard another crack.
But this time, the crack didn't come from them, it came from me. I slapped my hand over my mouth as another crack escaped my body.
Sweat immideatly cover my entire body as i tried to bite down a whimper. I am shaking as pain shot through my foot and i know its broken. But why?
I tried to stand up and slowly walk away but my left shoulder cracked and a scream ripped out of my throat. At the corner of my eye, i can see the shadows pause and turn towards me and i know i'm done for.
Without even thinking, i leaped up and ran as fast as i could. Only, my foot wasn't letting me get any further. And soon, the shadows were on me.
